Fall Hike to Whyte Lake

This past weekend my boyfriend Kyle, my good friend Tim, and I did the short trek from Horseshoe Bay to Whyte Lake in West Vancouver. Even though Kyle and I live in Horseshoe Bay we hadn't done this hike before so we decided it was about time to go!

Round trip the hike is around 9km or so from where we started so it took us around 2 hours there and back. We left around 3pm-ish and were able to get to the lake just as the last bit of sunlight was toughing the top of the trees around the lake.

It was such a beautiful fall day! Sadly many of the leaves have already been knocked off due to recent wind storms but it was still super pretty getting to see all of the fall colours.

We were one of the very few groups of hikers on our way up to the lake, everyone else seemed to be going down instead. I guess no one wanted to be up there when the sun set. Oh well, more lake for us then!

I was so excited it was a bit chillier so I could have chance to wear my new bright yellow puffer I was so happy about finding! I'd been looking for a puffer or shell in this colour for the last few years (I was suuuper picky about what colour yellow it had to be!) and was so excited when I found this one by CORE Life at Hudson Bay.

We stayed a little while at the lake then decided to head down before we had to walk home in the dark.

The lake is surrounded by a still swamp and tall evergreens, it was eery and calm. Watching the last bits of sun hit the mountain across the lake was gorgeous!

On the way down we caught a small glimpse of Bowen Island and the Sunshine Coast during golden hour.

The path down was covered in so many leaves it was so pretty! As much as I love summer for the warm weather fall has more personality in my opinion.

Overall it was a fun and relatively easy hike!. Theres just a bit of uphill and it isn't too steep at all. If you're looking for a moderate to intermediate day hike in Vancouver Whyte Lake is a nice spot to hike to and maybe have a little picnic while at the lake!
